Hi Doug,

I was just speaking with the Calgary Celiac association and they mentioned you are no longer on their recommended restaurants listing. Did you know that?

I have been taking friends to this small, but friendly place for nearly two decades, but last week our group was very disappointed with the quality of the food. Although the servicer was friendly & kept refilling our water glasses, the water was at room temperature. The Wor Wonton soup broth had an unappealing flavour & the too large vegetable/meat chunks needed to be cut before they could be eaten. The deep fried shrimp appetizer was terrible - thick rock hard batter surrounding small dried out small shrimp. One of my favourite dishes here for many years has been the Oriental Palace's version of beef satay. Although the meat was tender, this time the garlic sauce, along with most of the other dishes, were overloaded with salt. The shrimp fried rice was satisfactory, but another big disappointment was the ginger beef - tough & stringy - more like beef jerky than the crispy coated article one expects. I'm not sure if there has been a change in ownership recently or if the regular chef was not working that day, but the whole dinner experience was unsatisfactory in the extreme. Sadly I & my friends will not be returning. Restaurants like The Emerald Gardens or New Dynasty serve consistently much better meals at lower prices.
